Indigenous Identities is a mobile training and consultancy service and travels anywhere in New South Wales facilitating the learning and development of cultural and historical knowledge through family and community history research training programs. Why The research training programs empower people with transferable skills and builds on the capacity of individuals to undertake their own family history research or research on behalf of clients. Participants are trained in research techniques and gain valuable information about the location and access conditions of relevant records, documents, journals, diaries, books, films and photographs. Who The research training programs are designed to suit a diverse range of people with a diverse range of existing skills and knowledge, for example: professional groups such as health workers, counsellors, teachers, researchers; community groups such as Elders, members of the Stolen Generations and their families; inmates in correctional centres; other community interest groups; students; and any group with a willingness to learn how to research Aboriginal family and community history. Where The research training programs are delivered in the workplace, community, educational and correctional centres across New South Wales. A classroom style venue is required with a phone line for internet connection. When The research training programs are presented in five day packages for small groups and are also tailored for delivery in correctional centres. All equipment and resources, for example, course material, books, maps, journals, indexes, notebook computers, internet use, printing, scanning and copying are supplied with the training. How Indigenous Identities research training programs provide the opportunity to learn how to find information about your own identity and history as well as that of your family, community and culture. The training programs are very hands-on, presented step-by-step and delivered in a really friendly, respectful and enjoyable learning environment.
